I've never used it, so I don't personally know.  Of course, I can research it like anyone else can, but I'm hoping someone who has used it can chime in with personal experience?

Well, I have been using 5g of L-glutamine at night with my protein shake (80% Casein 20% Whey)  also 10g with protein after each workout, As with everything i was worried about side effects however after reading studies after studies, there is no side effects, and as you know Glutamine occurs naturually in your body so there is also no health risks, however they are many many benefits, a simple search on the internet will show you this, just to name a few , it helps maintain cell volum and hydration, therfore speeding up recovery.

Glutamine is the primary enegery source of your immune system, which is very important for bodybuilders of all kind, since heavy training tends to greatly lower Glutamine levels.

and finally it has been linked to protein synthesis.

5-10g of it with your protein or without will help you,

Hope it helps.

Guys,

The only people to benefit from 'supplements' such as glutamine are the people who are selling you it. They will give you all the razz about how it promotes muscle building etc, sry to burst the bubble, but they are all a waste of money. The supplements (always try to get what you need from a healthy diet, remember, supplements only supplement a healthy diet, not replacing) I would recommend which have been shown in studies are: Protein, Fish Oils, A decent multivitamin & lastly Creatine.

If you look back to where supplementation in training started, you will find Joe Weider at the helm with Arnold (Then the big household name) giving the thumbs up to the muscle building supplements. They didnt show you the ONLY real muscle developing supplement that works/or they used. ANABOLIC STERIODS.

Thats the truth behind supplements. It took me a long time & wasted money to find that out. I hope you dont have to waste your money.

Byron

P.s. Ive never used Anabolics, but I know a lot who have/still use(foolish, but heh, each to their own, but it is not my thing)

@ Jorge Ochoa E: After your friend gave you this bottle of L-glutamine, did he later come back and try to sell you some?  That might put a little perspective on it. . .

On balance, I think Byron has hit the nail on the head.  Our bodies work pretty well on a diet of real food!  After all, that's how they were designed to work. . .

@ Navid:  Hey, if you're getting good results from what you're taking, that is great.  Mind you, based on your other posts, you are doing some serious work outs, not just taking supplements / steroids and letting the chemicals do the lifting!  My first best guess is that your "clean" diet and hard work are what is paying off for you!

Maybe you could quit taking the L-glutamine for 12 weeks and see if it affects your results.  Not trying to use you for an experiment, but just wondering if you'd do as well with as without!

I used to take Glucosamine for my joints. . .  and once I lost some fat and started doing some weight lifting/ cardio, my joints quit hurting and I just dropped the Glucosamine and I'm fine without it!  Now, I wonder if it ever really did help me!
