So… apparently Krispy Creme was giving away free donuts today, I missed it because my plam pilot (my planner for work) broke today and I forgot.  Anyways, the reason this is terrible is worse than me missing my donut.  I guess it is considered NATIONAL DONUT APPRECIATION DAY today (June 4).  Anyone have some fun opinions on this topic???  I think this could be a fun one.Surprised

Yeah, I noticed this at Dunkin Donuts.  I rarely go there, but yesterday I was driving back and forth across VT and NH all day and went to DD twice.  Both times I ordered a small coffee with skim milk and the order-person said "would you like a free donut with that?"

I'm not sure which though occured first, but nearly simultaneously I thought

a) I love free things

b) Oh, now I understand why we are a nation of fatties

Anyway, I declined.  The woman sounded confused because she said "I'm sorry, did you say no?"  I said "yep, I do NOT want a donut".

I pull up (I was in the drive-through) to get the coffee and, sorry to say, but this woman clearly has been eating the supplies for quite a while, and again she said "so, what kind of donut did you want?"  I told her again I didn't want one, and after a second of confusion she smiled and said "ok, well I guess you don't have to have one".  Mentally I said "duh".

My second order later that day wasn't as dramatic but was still a surprise and this time the orderer even semi-shouted to their co-worker – "this guy just wants the coffee – no donut".

I have to admit, the last time I had a donut it was amazing.  Donuts taste really good.  But I actually view it as a punishment, not a gift, if I go to a morning business event and all they have are donuts.

What's so bad about these empty snacks is that they have all the saturated fat of  high-fat protein choices, i.e. two slices of bacon, without the benefit of even any protein.

I don't even eat things like doughnuts and funnel cakes on free days, because I'm afraid of the addiction.  I'd rather opt for something like pizza or cheese burger that doesn't fire up my sweet tooth.  Besides, if I can't eat a half-dozen  doughnuts, I'd rather not eat any.

With regards to salty snacks, it doesn't do me the same way.  If, for instance, I eat salted peanuts, my immediate reaction is that they taste too salty, as I've gotten used to the taste of unsalted (or lightly salted) foods and actually prefer them over the salty varieties.

I like all-natural peanut butter but I wish I could find a lower sodium variety.  I usually opt for unslated peanuts, but it would be more convenient if there were some low-salt peanut butter at regular supermarkets.

I do sell some online, but i'd rather not go into a sales pitch here…   If you can find any at a good healthfood store let me know, then I'll help you out.  But I'm trying not to use the forums for business.   The best place to find it is the smaller healthfood stores, or so I find.  It's probably going to be a little bit cheaper there.  you can also find some that is high in Omega-3's….

And for you Mayo lovers, while on the topic of sandwich stuff, Canola oil mayo isn't too bad actually.  It only has like 45 calories a serving.  And a bit healthier.  Try using that for cooking…

And I'm not a fan of much salt either.
