How long before going to bed do you have your last meal of the day?

My last meal of the day is dinner, usually around 6 or 7pm. I usually go to bed between 11 and 12 pm, in between I drink about a liter of water and a few cookies, that's all.

Sometimes I eat five meals; other days I try to get in six. The difference is when I eat the last meal. I eat supper around 5 PM. Some evenings, that's my last meal. I go to bed between 8:30-9:30, because I'm back up @ 4 AM on workout days; 4:30 on HIIT days; and 5AM on rest days.
When I eat a sixth meal, I'll eat a little protien/fat snack @ around 6:45. Although 1 hr, 45 minutes is not much time between my two last meals, I like to give myself at least an hour and half after eating, to go to bed. I wake up multiple times during the night starting around 11:30 (usually). Eating my last meal at 4:30 or even 7:00 seems to not affect this problem.

Cameron – for real? While I think it's largely a myth that eating close before bed makes it more likely that the food will turn to fat, I can't imagine eating my last meal in bed!

Ha! Well, normally I eat my last meal (of 7 total meals a day) about 2 hrs before bed but right now I'm unable to run because of my knee issue so I'm burning fewer calories overall and now I'm skipping my last meal to save about 500 calories so I don't become a fatty! It took some getting used to, but now my last meal is about 4.5 hrs before bed. I hate going to be hungry though.

I usually eat my first meal about 11 or so in the morning. I know, it's beter in the morning, but 1.) I get nauseous if I eat within 30 min. or me getting up. (After that i'm on my way to work.) and 2.) I'm a broke 21 yr. old, so yea… can't afford a 20th meal anyways, so it'll keep my calories lowISH :D. Second meal is probably about 1-1:30. 3rd is about 4-6 ish, depending on when I have a quick brack to run how for work. And then 9:30 grazing. (About 2/3 of my calories probably go in here.) And then my literal "bedtime" snack. I'm not too worried about my calories as I have a hard time affording to eat enough anyways. i cook almost all my food, so it helps keep it lowish, by my strandards anyways. And I eat about 3500 a day just for maintenance. Working as a trainer keeps me relatively active for the day. I may not always be working out, but i'm demonstrating, moving, walking around someone, etc. So it helps.
While we are at it though, metabolism has very little to do with resting caloric burn. There was a quite interesting study done on 2 people (both considered pretty low in metabolic rate) who work the same job, at the same place, and were within a couple years apart agewise. One burned approx. 1400 calories in the course of the day. The other was someone like me. They couldn 't sit still. All day they were tapping their foot, pacing around the room, twirling their pencil. He got up and went to the bathroom every hour or so. Kept filling his water, used the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. Most of it was very simple day to day stuff. This all, and mostly the all day fidgetting in his chair, burned (and i'm not sure of the number, but it's close) almost 3000 calories in the course of the day.
Love this study they did. Really does go to show that ADD people like me get some benefits of it. Of course you could always just get in the habit of tapping your foot some… :)

Hi all,
I usually workout in the evening, so this is a sample day:
- 7:30 Wake up –> Breakfast
-10:30 Morning Meal
-13:30 Lunch
-17:00 Afternoon Meal
WORK OUT DAY:
-19:15 Pre workout shake and fruit.
—-> 20:15 – 22:00 Time at gym (1h workout) <—-
-22:00 Post workout
-23:00 Dinner (basically some protein: chicken, fish, etc and healthy fat)
-23:30 Go to bed.
NON WORK OUT DAY:
-19:15 Evening meal
-21:00 Dinner
-23:00 Go to bed.
It may not be the best having dinner so close to bed, but if I do it with zero carbs (not even vegetables) I sleep quite well and hungry in the morning. On the contrary if I eat any carbs my sleep is affected.

Carl – my quesiton is a bit off topic, but are you saying you are able to sleep only 90 minutes after lifting? I've never tried lifting that late in the day…

Lol, I've actually worked out before and gone to bed about 15-20 minutes afterwards… consistently…Just habit, like everything else. your bady trains itself to finish and think "bedtime."
