Hi guys.. I have concerns re: fat in the face area.. any advice?

Actually I've had accomplish this once before, when I decided to be fit I was about 186lbs. and that time (unfortunately) I don't have the right knowledge virtually anything about weight lifting and nutrition, what I know.. to lose "weight" you have to burn more than you consume.. I continue doing it for about a year and I dropped down to 146lbs. there's a significant slimming down (the face) but unfortunately, I lose a lot of muscle mass too, no doubt.

And when I gained all the weight back some time later at 180lbs, I decided to research on the  real thing and found this website, and for a year I implemented advices  like doing squats, 5-6 smaller meals, morning cardio, post workout nutrition, lean protein, complex carbs to name the few, and I dropped down to 169lbs at 22% BF. I can see some descent muscle mass but it seems like the face and the gut stunt a bit…

So will I benefit if I do what I've done the first time? but not to long to the point of starving myself too much.. Any advice, explanation in my case? thanks..Wink

FYI: Starving yourself for a long time is really not a good idea, I felt it when I was about the last 1-2 months before I dropped down to 146lbs. there was a time though when I ate more than usual around 9-10pm and my stomach extremely hurts! my digestion merely halted-literally! and it stops to hurt the next morning, that radically slowed down my metabolism.. I hope this give some perspective to others that might doing the same thing I did in the past.. thanks..Smile

sorry man – I don't have any special advice for face fat.  I've heard about being a trouble spot for some people but what little I've read about it makes it sound genetic.  Sorry!

yeah sounds bad but true.. it's really obvious that it's the gene that dictates where to store the fat in the body.. there are people who are quite slim and lean but still got chubby cheeks.. and there are those who are a little bigger than regular but have slim faces..

Sometimes life is just a liittle unfair.. (lol)

Anyway, I'll just focus on losing weight more (fat preferably) and lowering my BF to teens and just see the difference, it's just a little hard to do it the healthy way, but still manageable to accomplish..

thanks for the reply.

Two points of motivation for you:

a) we all over-emphasize our "physique weak points"; meaning, as bad as you probably think it is, it's probably not as big a deal to others

b) as you get older (I don't know how old you are), you might be thankful for some extra face fat because lean people in great shape, when they age, tend to show their age in their face first – fat in the face has a youthful appearance; so your "physique weak point" may become a "physique strong point" in 10 to 20 yrs

wow, that's great.. I definitely didn't realize things like that.. that relieves me of somehow focusing too much on that, I'll just focus now on reducing overall BF.. I'm 22, and there is still plenty of rice to eat.. hehe..

Thanks Darrin, your great..

1.) Diet. Cleaning it up will help. I don't believe a person a can spot reduce fat. But a clean diet will help.

2.) Buy a neck harness and start nodding your way to a bigger neck. My brother always had a face that appeared fat despite being in decent shape. Then he got serious about his training and diet. Then got serious about training his neck. That 'fat-face" went away.

Hope this helps.

that's great advice too… my neck is not that big, so training the neck instead is a good idea.. people really look lean when their neck are parallel to their faces..

anyway how do you use that neck harness? Do you need to put weights?

thanks a lot metric…

I agree with Darrin about lean people looking older.  My cousin's body fat is usually in the high single digits and with the leaner face, it tends to…how do you put it?…show lines more.  Like when he's smiling.  Fuller faces look smoother, hence younger.  It's kinda like a deflated balloon versus and inflated one.

is it true that if we worked the certain muscle than if we  live the gym or working out than we increase the chance of bulking up that area more with fat as nutrition go more eassily in that area and accumulate there more as we had improved the way for nutrition to go there eassily by expanding the blood vessel.

I mean if we had worked out so excessively when we were in gym for our chest than our chest may accumulate more fat , if we used to do oblique muscle that we may increase the chance to get love handles ,if we leave working out completely.

We double the chance of accumulating fat by working out certain muscle  leaving them completely after certain time . if it is really true than it is far better to not do any weight training if we couldnt carry on for life long.

No, it's a myth.  Muscles don't "turn to fat."  That's physiologically impossible.  Muscles are made of amino acids.  Fats are made of lipids.  they are basically two opposite materials.  The myth comes from older bodybuilders who used to be hulking, lean, mean, lifting machines.  They have since stopped working out, thus burning more calories.  The problem is that their nutrition habits never reflected the fact that they stopped working out, so they began to lose muscle and it got REPLACED with fat, not changing into fat.

muscle and fat are two different tissues and I don mean to say that after we stop working out, muscle turns into fat.  what I want  to ask u, is over time we loose muscle if we stop work out but we increase the chance of replacing that place with fat more .  if we have never workout  in our life than we may or may not accumulate fat that more,  but if we  worked out  and left it to workout than it would be sure  that we loose muscle there and collect more fat in that particular area.

Sorry to world fitness network if i m creating confusion . actually i m not the native english speaker so it's being hard for  me to put on clearly .

I don't see any reason why that would be true.  The only thing I can think of is that most people, similar to my bodybuilding example, would have an adjustment period in their diet.  So for a little while might be taking in an excess of calories.  But, it shouldn't be more than a few lbs. until they figure out their caloric intake.  This is opposed to the person who wouldn't have had the issue because they didn't workout to begin with, so would already be fat…  You also might just plain notice it more on the formerly in shape person.  Other than that, I can't see any scientific reason why that would be true.

thank u for ur comment. This thing create a kind of fear to the people who want  to begin join. People is told that   after u leave gym u get bulky so dont begin it . So I asked u about it.

Guys is there some thing that people can do and control their chance to get fat at some extent only through changing eating habits.

i have heard that 6 small meals a day helps a lot besides it there is any way to maintain weight as some level only through changing the way of eating and type of food we eat.
